Now that's a bustling family, Pat!

May I suggest you click on Add a Discussion above and create a discussion using his surname? That will help you keep all the discussion related to your post here together in one place for later reference, and for others to follow the discussion more easily.

Just cut and paste what you've written in the general area here, then delete the first post on the Comment Wall once the Discussion Forum item is up.

I am researching the family of Eusebe Desmarais who arrived in Keewatin ca 1880.  He had a large family and lived in the Slabtown area.  He died in  Aug. 1932.  He married first in Pointe Gatineau, Quebec, Adele Galipeau and had 11 children.  After she died in 1880 he married Josephine Belanger Charron a widow with two children Florida and Fernando Charron.  They had 7 children.  She died in St. Boniface, MB in Dec. 1932.

Hello Elizabeth (Campbell). I am fascinated by your research and experience in the RRS. That has been a passion of mine, as well, as my husband is Metis and this area is of significance to his famlies. I am also interested in pursuing the Genealogial Certificate once I complete my Master's Degree (should be done in December) so am excited to hear of someone who is actually taking the programme. I'm very much looking forward to being on this site. Note-my picture was taken this June at the LOW.   Susan  :-)

Hi everyone: Just to let you know I am also on ancestry.ca.  I have some good information on my Keewatin McKellar, Davis and Hood families (my mom's side). Dad's side (Hillman) only came to area (East Hawk Lake and Kenora) in the 1930's -and that Keewatin girl captured his heart! Keewatin has always seemed more like home to me than Kenora. Talk soon!

Laureen - my guess would be 1920s. Girl's hair is short and her dress looks about that period.

Can anybody tell me anything about this picture taken in Keewatin.

On the back it said "Betty showing some of our stuff, the cross marks the Lake of the Woods mill."  Is this the flour mill?  Any idea when it was taken?

That is interesting Elizabeth - Brave of you to skydive too.  I also have never heard of the Silk Caterpillar Club. These stories should be carried down to the younger generation not to be 'forgotten'.

I was looking at Linda's list below, and saw Sgt. David Balchin on it. I believe his plane was shot down during the War, and his life was saved by his parachute (that should make him a member of the Silk Caterpillar Club. Ed Burton was another Kenora resident with a membership). When he was about 80 years old, he and I happened to be on a skydiving course together. He had signed up because he wanted to see what it would be like to use a parachute without being under duress to do so!
